University Projects

Dreams Project...

This was my first project, my theme was based on 'Dreams' from this i drew up a concept according to my own personal dreams. Dreams would be made up of random objects perhaps washed up on shore. I had a place i found relaxing to release my thoughts this place was the beach. This is were i developed my concept by looking at beach huts and deck chairs ect. My design portrays freedom for thought in a personal place, with navy blue and white sailor stripes representing the beach and a navy blue chiffon to represent the calm motion of the way the lace represents the foam at the end f a wave washed up on shore.

Jacket Project...

"Dior Inspired"

The jacket project was my second project, i was inspired by Christain Dior's 1947 'New Look'. I created a feminine three-quarter length jacket with a nipped in waist and emphasised bust line to really give it a 1947 feel. This project was a group collaboration-my first collaboration. It was styled and photographed by fashion communication students. Student Amy Sweetman created a New Look look-book inspired by the high street store. The look-book featured two other design students jackets and mine.

Final Collection...
"Back to Hays"
Inspired by the streets of Hollywood

After a trip to Los Angeles the concept for my new collection fell together. It all stemmed from the streets of Hollywood such as Rodeo Drive and Hollywood Boulevard. The collection is new and modern with a structured appeal that came from Hollywood buildings- The Kodak theatre a main hot spot for celebrities in this city. I wanted to capture the essence and glamour of Hollywood and bring it to life through my own invention with a new twist.

I was also inspired by the 'Hays Code' which was implied many years ago when film producers banned revealing dresses from film sets. They were then forced to create a new way to emphasis a woman's body. rather then revealing the bust area designers began to cut away at the backs of garments.
You will see how i have created attention to the backs of my garments in a structured way in-keeping with this concept.

A spring/summer collection designed for any woman who years a touch of Hollywood lifestyle.

Major Project Preparation
Vintage Glamour
Inspired by vintage family air loons. This projected begun with an 800 word statement about my personal identity. I created an outfit using laser cut techniques a source i felt looked creative and worked effectively with my concept.
